GP CAREER
WHY CHOOSE HILLINGDON GP VTS?
Supra-curricular activities
Supra-curricular activities are those that can further extend your knowledge of the curriculum. They include experience in outings and awaydays, deeper discussion of topics in small groups in the half-day release, and encouraging specialisation and out-of-programme experience.
Building a community
We want trainees to develop a supportive network with each other and the wider multidisciplinary community. We believe this will help you achieve career goals, avoid isolation, and improve your wellbeing . We encourage you to make social media groups, get to know each other in small group discussions, practice for exams together, and attend outings.
Wellbeing skills to last a career
Wellbeing includes high levels of satisfaction, having good mental health, and being able to manage stress. Key to this is developing self-awareness, understanding your personal and career goals, and understanding how to cope with constant change in healthcare/NHS.
Well-rounded education and experience
The knowledge needed in general practice is wide and time in hospital posts is getting less and less. We want to ensure a broad experience in clinical specialities, by covering the curriculum in the half-day release, ITPs available to every trainee, and encouraging you to attend clinics in Self-Directed Learning (SDL) time.
Ensuring trainees from different backgrounds can thrive
We are supportive of trainees with different backgrounds and needs, such as International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and neurodiversity.
